San Diego Branch Hosted Used Books Charity Sale Event on June 4th, 2023

Reported by Liuqing Chen

On June 4th, San Diego students of AYLUS organized Used Books Charity Sale event at Solana Ranch Park. The goal of this event is to raise funds to support the Libraries With Love program and provide children in Africa more opportunities to read books.

In the Charity Sale event, students either brought used books to the sale, came to help other volunteers sell books, or came to the book sale to buy books they needed. First, students organized all the books in genres of story books and test-preparation books onto tables in Solona Ranch Park. Next, they put labels with prices on different genres of books. Volunteers then recorded every transaction onto a bill collection list.

Through this activity, AYLUS volunteers were able to sell and purchase used books for two hours. This event provided an opportunity for students to acquire books at affordable prices, reuse pre-owned books and reduce waste, fostering a sense of community and providing a platform for students to connect and share their passion for reading and learning.

The following students participated in the Used Books Charity Sale Event, with 2.0 volunteer hours for each:
