Murrieta AYLUS Helps Clean Up Local Park (12th) (5/27/23)

Reported by Adora Xiao

On Saturday May 27, 2023, Murrieta AYLUS members conducted a park cleanup. Upon arrival they noticed they would have their work cut out for them. The area had been a recent location of a barbecue and a party, leading to a large amount of food residue, wrappers, balloons, and even loose glass. They quickly got to work, cleaning up the aftermath of the celebrations swiftly. They split up, starting with the walkways, before tackling the grass as a group, finding the litter plentiful and hazardous. Given the park was a popular destination for children, the loose broken glass was a severe hazard to regular play. After cleaning the grass area, they tackled the playground and the parking lot, similarly filled with small litter. During the cleanup, they gathered nearly fifty plastic bottles and aluminum cans scattered across the park, and plan to recycle them to raise money.
