Columbus Branch Continued Prep Work for Lunar New Year Celebration organized by Chinese Culture Links through January, 2023

Before the pandemic, every year in late January to early February, Ohio Chinese Culture foundation would hold a Chinese New Year celebrations in Westerville High School. It was usually a full-day event with performances, crafts and game activities, food, art display, etc. The annual event was cancelled since 2020. After three long years, it is finally going to resume on January 28th, 2023. This event received support from Dublin City School district and will be held in Dublin Scioto High School! AYLUS members will volunteer in the event, helping with different activities. Chinese bracelets and bookmarks will be given out to guests. In order to prepare for this event, members have started preparing bookmarks and bracelets. They hope to use their free time during the winter break to do as much as prep work as possible to support this community event. AYLUS alumni, Aidan Li, also participated in this preparation.

AYLUS volunteers had been making Year of the Rabbit bookmarks, starting from mid-December and extending into mid-January, in preparation for Lunar New Year celebrations across the community. The crafts were collected by January 15; over 100 bookmarks were made.

In addition, they were also used as handouts for Dublin City’s Culture Corner display program at the Rec Center on January 22. We received much positive feedback from the Culture Corner display-almost all the handouts were gone by the first day!

Our volunteers dedicated their holiday time to create these beautiful crafts, and hope they will be appreciated by the community!
