AYLUS Greater Triangle Branch Member Participates in Fire Station Workday

Activities: Around 10 people participated in the volunteer service, and Aiden was the only AYLUS representative there. First, all volunteers divided up into 3 teams – the 1st team started weeding, the 2nd team was bringing in compost, and the 3rd team was bringing in mulch. First, the group took the soil sample to see how the soil was doing – how hard or soft the soil was, the different types of soils such as clay, etc.; then one team put the compost in different beds, and mixed it with the dirt; another team added mulch on the ground and used rakes to spread the mulch across the ground. All the teams worked on loosening up the garden beds as well as took care of the weeds (burning the weeks so that they will not regrow by the next season). Finally, the group planted rows of seeds – radishes, carrots, and turnips. Aiden doesn’t do gardening very often and this was a fun experience for him!
