WEDI is a non-profit organization that strengthens communities through a continuum of educational and financial resources, removing systemic barriers to economic equity for all Western New Yorkers. WEDI’s focus area of Education works in tandem to tackle systemic inequities that affect Buffalo’s underserved residents, many of whom are people of color. By supporting youth to succeed in school, WEDI is helping to create a more equitable Buffalo.
Volunteers were needed to help elementary and middle school students achieve literacy in English in WEDI’s FLY and ENERGY education programs. During the fifth week of the summer camp, volunteers helped with homework, practiced reading with kids, facilitated games and activities, and prepared meals and snacks for the entirety of each day.
