On March 15, 2022, AYLUS Pearland volunteers went to Ed White elementary school to tutor the kids in the school’s Spring Break Day Camp Tutoring Program. The students were from Kindergarten to 5th grade. Most of them are bilingual and need help in Reading and Math. The volunteers were assigned into different classrooms to help the teachers. We helped the students to understand concepts of Math through games. We also have them read stories to improve their reading skills. For students in higher grades, we help them practicing on reading comprehension and multiplication. We work with the kids in rotations so that every student could get help on different things. We also help the teachers do things like sharpening pencils or whatever they need help with. The volunteers worked at school from 9:00am to 2:00pm with additional one hour commute.
The volunteers who participate today’s service are: Amy Miao, Erica Gao, Elizabeth Hu, Wendy Yin, Winnie Jiang, Leo Jiang, Jiaqi Ren, Alvin Zheng, Jordan Zheng, and Alex Dai.
