AYLUS Williamsville Branch Organizes a Book Drive Throughout May and June

May was Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, so we decided to organize a fundraising campaign to purchase and donate books on Asian American culture and history to Buffalo area K-12 schools. We want children to be aware of Asian Americans’ contributions to the country and understand the Asian culture by reading the books that we donated. We carefully picked some books with this theme and made a dedicated fundraising page.

We raised $1550 in 20 days and bought 126 books. We reached out to the librarians in local schools and donated the books to the following ten schools: Williamsville East High, Williamsville North High, Transit Middle, Casey Middle, Sheridan Hill Elementary, Maple East Elementary, Heim Middle, and Buffalo Public Schools #59, #65, and #99. All librarians were very supportive of the event. Some librarians even suggested many other titles to add to our book lists. During the donations, many principals even came to show appreciation.

Participants: Grant Wang (6 hrs for book selection and fundraising + 3 hrs for book donation),  Alex Liang (4 hrs), Eileen Wang (4 hrs), April Yang (3 hrs), Andrew Jiang (3 hrs), Sarah Qiu (2 hrs), Dasang Dolma (2 hrs), Grace Wang (2 hrs), Andrew Wang (1 hr), Kevin Yang (1 hr), Megan Tu (1 hr), Susan Tu (0.5 hr), Eric Liu (0.5 hr).
