AYLUS-Syosset Speaks Out About Their Experiences Through Essay Writing (4/18/21, #4)

Over the course of one week (April 11 to April 18, 2021), members of AYLUS-Syosset as well as their students revised and practiced speaking essays sharing their cultural experiences in America.

The AYLUS-Syosset ESL tutoring class had a group activity where tutors and students created short essays about 300-500 words long sharing their stories. Topics discussed in the essays included why they came to America, their feelings about the recent anti-Asian attacks, and ideas on how to prevent further hate. Then, on April 18, they gathered together virtually to film themselves reading their essays to collect into a short film.

Participants included Alan Huang (3 hours), Leo Cheng (3 hours), Jasmine Chen (3 hours), John Thach (3 hours), Greene Xue (3 hours), Ryan Leung (3 hours), Emily, Lin (3 hours), Louis Fan, Yankun (Zach) Yu, Huangjie Lu, Tiffany He, Zhuowei Xu, Zhangming Jiang, Yipu Xie, Haoyu Qiu, and  Jake Li.
