Sugar Land Branch Continues International Academic Lessons 70-73

Our 7th unit is from 10/1/2020 to 10/31/2020, the Sugar Land Branch Junior Support Program, led by Branch’s junior leader Alvin Zhou has continued to offer free lessons to Pre-K kids. Reading Lesson by Michael Levin was introduced to Pre-K kids in this unit. The Reading Lesson is a bestselling program that teaches young children to read in 20 easy lessons. It is designed as a step-by-step course for parents who want to teach their young children to read at home. The teaching method is based on phonics and key-word recognition, and with its innovative and guided approach, the 20 step-by-step lessons provide an easy-to-follow recipe for teaching children to read. Developed by pediatrician Michael Levin, the program has also been used successfully for children with disabilities. Due to limitation of concentration time of Pre-K kids, we decide to finish this book in total 40 lessons. Thanks for the growth of teacher team, so we can do 4 lessons each week on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday now.

Start from November, our elite teacher Shaopan Gao will start a new class, Singapore Math for 1st graders and under, we will have 8 classes in total. We will use number lines, pictures, and daily life examples to introduce and explain the basic concept of numbers, addition, subtraction, length, and weight. We expect that the concrete pictorial approach will enable students to encounter math in a meaningful way.

On 4th week of 7th unit from 10/25 to 10/31, Alvin organized meetings, meanwhile Nathan, Ethan and Philina joined as presenters. Review of Lesson 13 had been taught by Nathan on 10/25, Review of Lesson 14 had been taught by Ethan on 10/26, Review of Lesson 15 had been taught by Philina on 10/28 and Review of Lesson 16 had been taught by Nathan on 10/30.
