AYLUS Pearland Volunteers as Judges in “We, Together 2020” Competition

In June 2020, five AYLUS Pearland volunteers were invited to serve as judges for individual submissions of “We, Together! 2020” Competition hosted by Project Rise and Shine.  Project Rise and Shine focuses on the development needs of Asian American adolescents and develop prevention plans and policies. was sponsored by Hogg’s foundation while leading by the Light and Salt Association. Ten organizations from Asian American communities were invited to be the partners of the project.

“We Together 2020” competition was designed for students under age 21. The competition called for either written work, artwork, photo/videography, or a project on themes related to life during COVID 19.

AYLUS volunteers served as judges for all individual submissions, while another group of adult panelists judged project submissions.

Among 22 individual submissions AYLUS judges selected top 3 works for each of the following themes

  • My life after COVID 19.
  • My blessings to individuals affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Cheers and support for frontline healthcare workers and/or first responders.

The submissions show the impact of the pandemic to daily lives, how the youth adapt to the lifestyle changes, and how people help each other and overcome these difficulties.
