San Diego Branch Hosted the Fourth Online Challenge Camp Program on May 2nd 2020

Reported by Jonathan Backues

On May 2nd, San Diego Branch students hosted an online Challenge Camp tutoring program. The purpose of the activity was to allow older volunteers to tutor and teach younger students on various subjects of interest.

Due to the current circumstances, AYLUS San Diego moved their activity online, teaching the students through zoom video conferences. Due to several factors, this activity has received more volunteer participation, to a point where the entire lesson was several 1-on-1, 1-on-2, 1-on-3, and 1-on-four sessions. First, both the students and the volunteers joined a main zoom room, for attendance and a general briefing of how the activity will operate. Next, they split up into several break-out rooms and begin the lessons. At the end of the activity, everyone returned to the main zoom classroom for a final check, and to receive feedback for the new activity.

Through this event, young students were taught various subjects, including Chinese, English Writing, Spanish, Piano, Saxophone, Clarinet, Cello, Coding, World History, Chess, and Art.

The following volunteers participated in the 4th online Challenge Camp: Sarah Li, Nathan Yang, Anny Wang, Ruiqi Ding, Haobin Cao, Edward Liu, Anthony Yao, Eddie Qiao, Claire Jiang, Jonathan Backues, Eric Lin, Eric Li, Conan Wu, Anthony Jiang, Luke Qiao, Hausen Wu, Emma Li, Harry Li, Derek Ma, and Liana Xie.

The AYLUS San Diego Committee organized the fourth online Challenge Camp on May 2nd, 2020.
