Columbus Branch Hosted Chess Tournament on November 5th, 2016

On November 5th, the Columbus branch AYLUS organized a local chess tournament at Dublin Jerome High School for over 50 students of all ages. Featured guests were renowned chess instructor Coach Mao and national and international champion Maggie Feng. Registered players were put into groups by grade; k-2, 3-4, 5-6, and 7 and up. After three rounds, the top two players from each group were awarded trophies and anybody could play against Maggie in a stimulus exhibition. The trophies were awarded by Dublin Grizzell Middle School’s Principal, Corinne Evans. AYLUS set up concessions, registration, and scoring stations. Overall, it had a good turnout and was a success as the first public event of the AYLUS Columbus Branch. The Columbus Branch would also like to thank the Dublin City School District for raising publicity for this event, Dublin Jerome High School for allowing the students to use their facilities for the day, the Indian Run Methodist Church for providing chess boards, and to all the players who participated and the parents who supported them!
