On 4/23/22, AYLUS Syosset revisited the Long Island Native Plant Initiative and helped in removing invasive weeds from potted plants by pulling out the weeds from the pot and relocating them into composting buckets. Around 100 plants were successfully de-weeded. In addition, members also participated in relocating entire racks and benches of plants from the greenhouse interiors to the main area of the facility, where the plants will be more conveniently located to be put into outdoor gardens or for sale.
The Long Island Native Plant Initiative (LINPI) is an all-volunteer cooperative effort of over 30 non-profit organizations, governmental agencies, nursery professionals, and citizens. Their mission is to protect the genetic integrity and heritage of Long Island native plant populations by establishing commercial sources of genetically appropriate local (ecotypic) plant materials for use in nurseries, landscaping, and habitat restoration activities.
Members who participated include Alan Huang(4 hours), Leo Cheng(4 hours), Ryan Leung(4 hours), Tommy Tang(4 hours), Mia Li(4 hours), Feilei Li(4 hours), Johnny Zhang(4 hours), Junhao Chen(4 hours), and Advisor Julia Jia.
