Over the month of October to November 6, 2021, members of AYLUS Puget Sound completed the approximately second half of the 2021 AMC 10 Prep Course! In addition, instructors Sarah Xuan and Sophie Xuan hosted an additional review session for the 2021 November AMC 10 A on November 13, 2021.
Our 2021 AMC 10 Course was taught by Cecilia Sun, Sophie Xuan, and Sarah Xuan. The three instructors had teamed up to prepare detailed reviews and breakdowns of the past AMC 10 exams; our second half of the course covered from the 2019 10 B to the most recent test of the 2021 10 B. The additional review session covered this year’s exam: the 2021 Fall 10A. In addition to preparing solutions to specific problems, we covered extension topics during the majority of classes. After each class, instructors often stay behind to answer questions and clear up any confusions. In addition, all editing and uploading of recordings, additional sign ups, emails and questions were handled by the instructors of the course themselves. Our final summary class reviewed the four broad topics of Algebra, Number Theory, Counting and Probability, and Geometry with special focus on Geometry–reviewing as much formulas, concepts, and techniques as we could. We additionally sent out handouts containing these summaries to students after our final class. Lastly, in the summary class, we also discussed various tips for the actual exam, and answered any lingering questions.
Our student retention rate was fairly high: we still had approximately 30-40 students who attend classes as well as students who attend selectively. For our review session, we had approximately 20-30 students who reviewed with us. The feedback we received on our course was overwhelmingly positive: students appreciated the quality and detailed solutions, explanations of how to approach and solve problems, and the extensions we provided to expand knowledge.
We thank our students and everyone who has participated in or helped make this course possible. AYLUS Puget Sound will continue the promotion of mathematical learning and self-enrichment through their accessible and free courses, teaching students across the Americas.
