In the month of April 2021, the East Cobb Branch of AYLUS held Youth Tutoring activity online, in light of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. All tutoring activities were one-on-one and either Skype or Zoom was used. In the case of oversea students, WeChat was used for tutoring sessions. One tutor spent a combined 8 hours tutoring Chinese students with the use of WeChat.
The Chinese students were taught English based on their current understanding of the language. A total of three Chinese students were tutored throughout the month of April. The three students consisted of a fourth, fifth, and sixth grader. The fourth and fifth graders were taught basic English vocab and grammar, and the tutor would spend most of the session going over their textbooks and reviewing vocab words to make sure they understood what the words meant, how to pronounce them, and how to use them in a sentence. The sixth grader had the best understanding of English out of the three, so she was taught more advanced grammar rules with the use of English short stories.
Tutoring these three students was very fun, and the best part was when the students had improved their English over time.
