On January 2nd, from 1:30-4:30 PM EST, the Greater Princeton Branch of AYLUS (GPA) hosted its “Beyond The Chess Tournament for AYLUS”, and first ever tournament with CASH Prizes, to promote youth volunteer community services while defeating the COVID-19 pandemic. Tournaments on chess.com are open to all ages to have fun and test their skills by playing chess against others. With more people joining the ABC Chess Club, more kids have the opportunity to play quality chess against other curious learners.

With the tournament about to start, more than 25 people joined the ABC Chess Club Fundraiser club to compete in this week’s tournament with cash prizes, including players all throughout the US. Before the tournament started, there was an informational meeting held on zoom to discuss the rules about the tournament and how it works, and to introduce AYLUS to the participants that are not familiar with the organization, along with mentioning how to donate to help the community.

The tournament started at 2:00 PM EST with 15 participants, in a 2 hour Swiss style tournament. They played intense games, with many close games. There were 2 people who tied and clenched first place: leonluo, with 3 wins and a draw, and charlie_wang, also with 3 wins and a draw. There was also a tie for 3rd place, splitting the prize. After the tournament, another zoom was held to explain the process to claim prizes. Everyone had fun during this tournament and got the chance to play against a variety of different opponents with different skill levels.

AYLUS Chess Club’s next tournament is going to be on Saturday, February 6th, from 2 to 3 PM EST. This tournament will be like a regularly scheduled arena style tournament via chess.com.
