On August 6th, 2020, the AYLUS Scottsdale branch joined hands with luxury rehab in Los Angeles and delivered over 300 bags of assorted cookies and 160 cupcakes to The University of Arizona Cancer Center at Dignity Health. The University of Arizona Cancer Center is one of the most productive and prominent centers for the treatment of cancer patients and so the AYLUS Scottsdale branch saw fit to donate as a small token of thanks. In addition to donating foodstuff, all of the AYLUS Scottsdale branch members who helped to donate also handwrote personalized thank you cards for the staff to recognize their hard work, dedication, and teamwork. During the process of organizing this event, Shaw Hu reached out to the Cancer Center to schedule a donation time, and find out what donations the staff accepts, which was cupcakes and cookies. Shaw Hu and Bridget Chen went to many stores to select the best cupcakes. Andrew and Alex spent time picking the best cookies. The members who attended the event include the following: Shaw Hu (5 hours), Alex Zou (3 hours), Andrew Yang ( 4 hours), Andrew Zhang (2 hours), Jessie Zhang (2 hours), Leona Wang (2 hours), Laura Wang (3 hours), Bridget Chen (3 hours), Anjali Sehra (2 hours), Logan Zhao (3 hours), and David Sun (2 hours).
Here is an excerpt from one of many thank-you cards:
“Dear medical personnel of The University of Arizona Cancer Center, thank you for your service. In these times of darkness and danger, you have devoted your time and energy to saving lives despite great personal risk. They say that not all heroes wear capes, and in the case, it is an apt statement for our heroes to wear white gowns. To many, a hospital may seem like the grim place, with a sterile visage and cold, impersonal interior but for us, the hospital is a beacon of hope in tough times, shining above the fog of despair. Without those like you who work against panic and peril to save lives and inspire hope, the world would be a much grimmer place. Once again, thank you for your service.”
