Olympia Branch Sews and Donates Patterned Masks to Home Instead Senior Center During the Month of July to August 5th

On July, the Olympia Branch of AYLUS decided to pick out patterned and colored fabric to hand-sew face masks for people who need them. After making many observations, we noticed that many people wear plain or black face masks day-to-day. Donating to a senior center meant that we wanted to provide joy and a spark of happiness while giving necessary objects. Through these thoughts, we decided to start a project that makes a variety of colored and patterned masks so that each is unique.

To pick out and finish color designs, Beatrice Manu and Jingyi Zhao visited many stores for designs. Using sewing techniques, these two members were able to produce durable two-sided fabric masks for Home Instead Senior Center. While working as a team, both members ironed, sewed, and heat-pressed each mask. While testing the products out, they were able to add a design on the elastic to ensure no damage happens behind the ear. Our team hopes that this project sparks a bright moment in the community.

Participants: Beatrice Manu (3 hours sewing 7/25, 2.5 hours sewing 7/28, 3.5 hours sewing and packing and delivery 8/5), Jingyi Zhao (3 hours sewing 7/25, 2.5 hours sewing 7/28, 3.5 hours sewing and packing and delivery 8/5)
