The East Cobb branch of AYLUS made thank you cards and origami to give to nurses at local hospitals for National Nurses Day. Most members made around 30 cards or crafts, with a few making over 400. In total, around 2,000 cards and crafts were made. They were dropped off at mine and Cynthia’s houses to pack them into bags. I ended up with around half of them.
The process of packing the cards and origami was quite simple. To start, I had to lay out all the cards/origami and organize them by their shapes and sizes. The cards were very diverse. There were many different sizes: some were generic thank you cards, some were just blank cards that had a nice picture drawn on the front, and others were even little crafts that contained nice messages in them, such as little hearts or paper cranes. After organizing them into groups, they were ready to be packed. My mom had bought big Ziploc bags, which were what we would be placing the cards in. We started packing, putting about 4-5 cards/crafts into each bag. We finished in around 2 hours.
After packaging them all up, they were ready to be dropped off. We placed them in boxes. Although it took some time and patience to pack these cards, I felt comforted when I imagined how happy the medical staff would be when they receive these special gifts. Even though it wasn’t much, our Each Cobb branch was happy to be able to do something for the nurses who were risking their lives everyday to help us and keep us safe during this pandemic.
