AYLUS Garden City volunteers helped the Friends of the Garden City Library prepare for their upcoming book sale on 11/4/2026, 3:pm-4:30pm. Daniel, Luis, Ewan, Micheal M, and Brayden K. transported books from the library’s book room to the meeting room, where the sale will take place, and helped organize the space for the event.
In addition to the physical setup, students also assisted with organizing donor information using Excel. They entered the names of individuals who had made monetary donations to the Friends of the Library. This information will be used to develop an email list to help promote the upcoming book sale.
The activity also became a great peer-learning opportunity. Previously Daniel was taught how to use Excel, and today Daniel passed on what he had learned by teaching Ewan. The older students also helped the two younger volunteers learn how to use Excel. This sharing of knowledge allowed students to build their technical skills while practicing communication, patience, and teamwork.
By contributing both physical help and technical support, AYLUS volunteers helped the Friends of the Library prepare for the book sale while gaining hands-on experience in community service, data organization, and collaboration. It was also a good example of how students of different ages can learn from and support one another.
