Fall was in the air at the September session of SMILE Pearland, where AYLUS volunteers and participants came together for an afternoon of creativity, connection, and harvest fun on Sept 27, 2026!
This month’s theme, “Autumn Art & Harvest Fun,” invited participants to celebrate the season through art, conversation, and a special mooncake tasting. With the help and encouragement of volunteers, participants created colorful autumn trees using green, yellow, and red paint. They drew tree trunks with simple artistic strokes and added vibrant leaves using foam fruit bags. Each finished artwork was unique and full of personality!
Participants also gathered in small groups to share their favorite colors and fall activities. These conversations encouraged communication, self-expression, and meaningful connections among participants and volunteers.
The session ended on a delicious note as everyone enjoyed traditional mooncakes in celebration of the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival—a time associated with harvest, togetherness, and appreciation.
Beyond the fun, the activities provided opportunities for participants to strengthen fine motor skills, creativity, communication, confidence, and social connections in a warm and inclusive environment.
SMILE Pearland continues to provide a welcoming space where individuals with special needs can learn, create, connect, and shine. The program is part of the Youth SMILE 4 Special Needs initiative, organized by Hummingbird Community Outreach and PROMIS/AYLUS Pearland, with the support of valued community partners.
