This Saturday, four AYLUS members volunteered at Richerson Feed My Starving Children program, working from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM. There is a total of five jobs per table: Scoopers, baggers, weighers, sealers, and boxers, sealers having to be eighteen years or older. Each bag includes four ingredients: Vitamins, veggies, soy, and rice, packed into the bag in that exact order. Weighers make sure each bag weighs between 375 to 395 grams. Sealers seal the bag and make sure nothing falls out, and, finally, boxers box all the bags into a box, each box containing 36 bags.
After packing, everyone helped clean up by putting the spoons and baskets on a separate table for staff members to do dishes and sweeping the floor and swiping all the spills on the table into the Farmer’s Food basket. This food will go to farms and farmers will feed the food to the farm animals that live there, so today, we didn’t just feed kids from Guatemala, we also fed local farm animals.
After prayer, everyone got to view the results of how many bags and boxes we packed. In total, the whole session of five tables or 10 funnels, everyone packed 115 boxes, or 24,840 meals. With a cost of only 7,203.60 dollars. This can feed 68 children in Guatemala one daily meal for a whole year. We made the lives of 68 children better and all of this couldn’t have been done without AYLUS and the other countless volunteers that attended this amazing session of packing food.
