On Sunday, September 27, from 1:30 to 4:30, the AYLUS Dix Hills Branch volunteered at the Long Island Chinese School as teaching aides. Volunteers signed in at the front table, after which they assisted in putting up informational signs about various Midautumn Festival poems and art pieces. After that, volunteers were assigned classrooms to help in, doing various tasks such as printing out worksheets and grading homework. With volunteers helping, teachers had less distractions that could take away from valuable teaching time. Afterwards, volunteers also helped in the intermediate level elective chess class, where the volunteers kept the students focused on the lesson before they started their tournament games. Volunteers set up the chess boards for the students’ tournament games, then watched over the games to confirm that the boards were properly set up and nobody made any illegal moves.
Because of the AYLUS Dix Hills Branch volunteers, students and teachers at the Long Island Chinese School had a productive, better experience.
