On Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 9:00 to 12:30, members from AYLUS Oakland Gardens went to Kissena Softball Field for the 257th event to repaint the old benches.
At the start of the event, we began preparing with the materials that we had, thanks to Jazmine who generously gave us all the tools that we needed for today’s event. We had 12 brushes, 6 small rollers, 10 big rollers, 6 skinny rollers, 10 scrapers, plastic cups, 8 paint trays, and 2 paint openers. We started off by creating groups. The first group would be the scrapers, because they had to get rid of the excess paint before the rollers actually started painting. Rolls of paper were also placed underneath the benches so the paint wouldn’t drip onto the floor and cause a mess. We also used some of the brushes to sweep off any dirt or pieces of scraped off paint. We prepared the paint by distributing the 4 buckets of paint into each plate and cup, so the rollers and paint brushes would have enough paint to paint all of the benches. After the scrapers and brushes were done, the paint would soon follow. We worked at around 2-3 benches at a time, scraping, then rolling the benches. When each bench was finished, one of our members was creating signs with the label “Wet Paint” to inform and warn others not to sit on the benches.
At the end of the event, we managed to paint a total of 20 benches. We would like to thank all the members who came to volunteer at today’s event, and we would also like to again thank Jazmine Flower for supplying us with all the tools that we needed in order to work on this event today!
