This Saturday, we all volunteered at the Richardson Feed My Starving Children location and signed up for the packing and labeling team. We watched videos to ensure everyone was careful and aware of the rules. The packers worked at table 1 scooping the rice, vitamins, soy, and vegetables while others packed the rice, weighed it, and sealed it. We met so many new people and we cheered extremely loud every time Table 1 finished a box! This momentum helped us make significant progress, allowing us to pack 37 boxes, which was 2 less than the record for one table.
We separated into different roles, and we stuck with our jobs, stepping in for each other when it seemed like someone was getting tired! For example, Roger helped Kathleen and our other bagger, Paul open bags to make the process streamlined. We sang to music and participated in different competitions–winning first for first to fill up 5 boxes!
Our group packed way more than average, with 37 boxes at our table. Even though the work was tedious, we maintained a positive attitude and continued humming to 2010’s throwback songs. We packed 22,464 meals with a cost of 6,514.56 dollars. These 104 boxes fed 61 kids for a year.
Towards the end, we helped clean up and sweep the floors, cleaned the tables, and worked together to finish one last box (since we went on a Saturday!). Finally, we ended the night off with a prayer and blessed the volunteers, food, and children that would be receiving it!
Overall, the night was extremely rewarding as usual and filled with lots of joy and good spirit as we put in everything we got to help someone in Venezuela!
