AYLUS Twin Cities Branch: Chinese/Art/Math Summer Workshop – Session 5

On Saturday, July 25, 2026, the AYLUS Twin Cities Branch hosted Session 5 of our free Chinese, Art & Math Summer Workshop from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Excelsior Library Meeting Room (337 Water Street, Excelsior, MN 55331).

In the Chinese class, students learned the traditional Chinese folktale The Butterfly Lovers (Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai). They practiced key vocabulary and sentence patterns, completed a vocabulary word-search activity, and used the Beginning–Middle–End strategy to retell and analyze the story.

During Art, students learned to draw a variety of cartoon characters and animals, creating colorful and imaginative artwork. In Math, students solved addition and subtraction puzzles while reviewing multiplication and division through interactive activities.

The students were engaged and enthusiastic throughout the workshop. Organizing and teaching the program gave our volunteer team valuable experience in leadership, communication, and event coordination while allowing us to introduce Chinese language and culture to more families in our community.

Event Supervisor: Jieming Jin

Instructors: Lucy Zhang (4 hours), Megan Wang (4 hours), Ellen Yuan (4 hours)
