On August 1st, 2026, members of the Syosset AYLUS organization volunteered with LINPI (Long Island Native Plant Initiative) to support conservation efforts across Long Island. Volunteers worked carefully to identify and record plants, ensuring accurate tracking throughout the nursery. Team members placed labels on containers, creating a clear system that helps with plant management and community outreach. The group prepared nutrient-rich soil for new plantings, showing commitment to giving native species the best growing conditions. Additionally, volunteers moved mature plants into bigger pots to help them grow stronger roots and continue developing. To finish the day’s work, members brought new plants into the nursery, adding to the stock for restoration and education programs. Volunteers also found a praying mantis to encourage them in their work. Through teamwork and careful attention, the volunteers strengthened LINPI’s work while contributing meaningfully to protecting Native Plants on Long Island.
