On July 11th, members of the AYLUS Birmingham Branch hosted a blueberry fundraiser to help support the Greater Birmingham Humane Society (GBHS). GBHS is an organization dedicated to providing contracted animal control services for Jefferson County, handling stray pickups, injured animal rescues, and aggressive animal responses. They investigate reports of animal neglect/abuse and work with owners to improve living conditions. GBHS also takes in surrendered pets, provides medical assessments/vaccinations, and houses them for adoption.
The volunteers got up early in the morning to drive to a nearby farm to pick blueberries. After picking for a little more than two hours, they ended up picking 7 gallons. Volunteers hosted a fundraising stand later that afternoon, selling blueberries, attracting customers, and managing fundraising logistics. Altogether, the AYLUS Birmingham Branch raised over 400 dollars, helping support our local community through GBHS.
