Aylus Great Neck Branch Volunteer in Field one and two in Jones Beach on 7/4/2026 (76th)

On 7/4/2026, Aylus volunteers went to Field one and two in Jones Beach from 5:00pm to 10:00pm (5 hours).

As always, our job today is to protect habitats of piping plovers by guarding outside the fences that surround the area. That is, no one is allowed to cross over the fence. Why we do this every single year is because many people are coming into Jones Beach for its fireworks and air shows on Independence Day. This can be catastrophic for the piping plovers if people get inside the area because people can destroy their nests and eggs. Volunteers that are not only from Aylus actively help to prevent this from happening, and this event also gives volunteers an opportunity to relax and enjoy an astoundingly beautiful firework show for America’s 250th celebration.
