On Tuesday, June 30th, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, two members of the Newtown AYLUS branch volunteered at the Newtown Athletic Center for the Autism Cares Foundation, which is a organization that creates enriching activities for both children and adults with special needs.
One of our jobs was to accept donations at a desk near the entrance of the outdoor pools. If someone donated $15, then they could receive a hat; if they donated $20, then they could receive a shirt. Before people started arriving for the event, we also had to sort the shirts by size and style. Another one of our jobs was to hand out flyers for the organization’s next fundraising opportunity. The two of us would circle the pool and hand out the flyers to all of the families. Our final job was to take photos of the event. We were given a camera and then were told to go take pictures of kids having fun in the water. In the end, we received around $150 in donations.
Participating members include Catherine Chen (Event Leader) and Kylee Guo. Each member contributed 3 hours.
