On Sunday, June 14th, 2026, from 8:45 am to 12:15 pm, volunteers from AYLUS Oakland Gardens Branch participated in their 231st event at Murray Hill Playground, where we worked together to repaint the park benches.
During the event, our team prepared the materials by pouring paint from large buckets into smaller trays and distributing them among different groups. Before painting, we used scrapers to remove old, peeling paint from the surfaces of the benches to ensure that the new coats would adhere properly. We also laid plastic sheets on the ground to prevent paint from dripping onto the playground floor. To paint efficiently, we used rollers to cover large areas and brushes to reach corners, edges, and other detailed sections that rollers could not access.
This event improved the appearance of the playground and helped make the park a cleaner and more welcoming place for community members. One challenge we faced was preparing the benches, as removing the old paint required patience and teamwork. By dividing responsibilities and cooperating with one another, we completed the task effectively. The event also required communication, attention to detail, problem solving, and teamwork skills.
We would like to sincerely thank Jazmine for helping bring the paint supplies to the event and our parent advisor for assisting with opening the paint containers. We are also grateful to all of our volunteers and everyone who supported this project. By working together, we were able to make Murray Hill Playground a brighter and more inviting place for everyone to enjoy.
