On Saturday May 30th, from 9:00AM to 12:00PM, the AYLUS Roslyn Branch volunteered with NOSH Delivers. NOSH Delivers is a food pantry in Glen Cove that strives to make sure families in need have access to food. They offer goods such as produce, meat, dairy and even personal hygiene products like soap and toothbrushes.
As soon as we got to NOSH there were tasks for us to help with. Some of the members assisted shoppers in the food pantry while the other went to the back to prepare ingredients for NOSH bags for Monday. We gathered items like rice, canned carrots, and tuna so that families who received the bags would have a balanced source of nutrition. When we finished with that, we pushed the previously prepared items aside and brought deliveries of snacks onto the table. We sorted through the boxes and grouped the snacks inside by types of snacks and also checked the expiration date to make sure that they were fit for consumption. We put the snacks into smaller boxes so they were easier to lift and put remaining snacks that didn’t fit onto the shelves of the food pantry. At times, we would help sort out the back of NOSH by doing tasks such as moving boxes of rice.
We finally finished up our day by tidying up the shelves of the food pantry and guiding shoppers while they looked on the shelves. We are extremely grateful that we are able to help our community because of the impact on the community. We enjoyed coming here and will be back next time excited to do more work!
