AYLUS Great Neck Branch Volunteer at Nissequogue State Park 5/30/2026 (71th)

On 5/30/2026, Aylus volunteers went to a greenhouse in Nissequogue State Park to fill up pots with soil from 9:30am to 12:00am (2.5 hours).

Today, we’re still filling pots up with soil. The plastic cover of a big bale of soil was removed with the assistance of a sharp shovel. Subsequently, one would use a baseball bat to hit the bale that was split into two parts. In the meanwhile, the other would stay away to prevent being hit. Afterwards, the soil was added fertilizer, mixed, and filled into pots.

After that, the volunteers needed to stick stickers onto plastic labels provided by the park staff. These will be half-inserted into pots of soil to identify the plant planted in the pots.

Finally, the volunteers cleaned up the soil on the ground using brooms.

Members who participated include:

Felicia Liu (2.5h),

Annabella Kang (2.5h)
