AYLUS Great Neck Branch Volunteer in the North Hempstead Beach (Bar Beach) on 5/16/2026

On May 16, 2026, Aylus volunteers traveled to North Hempstead Beach (Bar Beach)—located at 175 West Shore Road, Port Washington—to participate in a handicrafts volunteering activity for the Asian American Festival, held from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM the following morning (a total of 6 hours). The venue was teeming with people and buzzing with excitement as everyone gathered to experience the allure of diverse Asian cultures. The volunteers arrived at the event venue at 11:00 AM. Upon reaching their designated tent, they immediately began setting up the site. For this event, our organization—Aylus—hosted three distinct activities: Zodiac Rubbings, Pipe Cleaner Art, and “Recreating Artifact Images.” Rubbing is a printing technique utilized by the ancient Chinese; with nothing more than a sheet of paper, a mold, and ink, one can reproduce a desired image or text onto the paper. The process is also very simple, attracting a lot of tourists to visit. Next came the pipe cleaner art. Using pipe cleaners as their medium, the volunteers crafted a variety of simple yet delightful creations—such as flowers, persimmons, crowns, and rings. Finally, there is “Recreating the Likeness of Cultural Relics.” This activity promotes Chinese culture by allowing participants to craft handmade replicas of ancient Chinese bronze artifacts. Using templates overlaid with tin foil, people can sculpt exquisite models. Aylus did an outstanding job during this event. The volunteers also performed exceptionally well. We view this event as a fantastic opportunity to promote traditional Chinese culture, and we truly cherish it. It feels wonderful to be able to interact with people from all over the world.
