AYLUS Oakland Gardens Branch Helps with P.S. 203 Clothing Drive(04/18/2026)

On Saturday, April 18th, 2026, AYLUS Oakland Gardens held its 223rd event at P.S. 203. For this event, our group collaborated with the PTA of P.S. 203 to hold a clothing drive. The donated clothes would go to the people in need and would help fundraise and support the school.

Our branch started this event by setting up at the entrance of the school. The PTA members of the school gave us instructions on helping the donors. As the clothing drive started, many people started donating clothes in bags. We served them by helping those who were taking part in the fundraiser. Due to the heavy bags, we were instructed to help people carry the bags with clothes so they wouldn’t have much trouble carrying them to the drop-off location. Many donors donated by car, so we went to the cars where the donors were, and they would hand the clothes to our members who would carry the clothes to the piles. By doing this act of service, many donors were grateful, and it created much less of a hassle for the donors.

Later on during the event, when the clothing drive was about over, the pickup truck for the clothes came. The two workers inside the truck stood on top of the truck, and half of our members carried the bags near the truck, while the rest carried the bags near the truck onto the ledge of the truck. The workers would put around 4-5 bags on a scale, give the PTA members the ok, and the workers would put the bags to the inside of the back. This process of carrying the bags inside the truck took roughly 30 minutes, with the last few bags filling up the rest of the truck capacity.

At the end of this event, the school’s PTA and our members finished transporting the bags inside the truck. We successfully collected 6131.2 pounds of clothing, which is over 3 tons’ worth. We would like to say thanks to P.S. 203 for giving us this opportunity, and we would like to thank the PTA and the truck workers who helped and guided us through this event. They taught us their strategies and how to utilize them. Finally, we would like to thank our members who participated in this event, as well as those who donated clothes for the better.
