On Saturday, Mar 14th, from 3:45-5:00, the AYLUS Great Neck Branch held an AAPI event at the Great Neck Main Library for the kids. Activities that occurred during this event consisted of reading and arts and crafts, such as crochet, building clay, and origami. At first, our volunteers Goldman, Amber and Rebecca read books for kids. Rebecca read “Gwei the Hungry Ghost”, Amber read “The Seven Princesses” and Goldman read “The Yellow Bus” to the children. After the reading section, the children had a choice of what activity they wanted to do. Jayden and Victoria made different stuff with crocheted. Christina, Nathan, Rebecca and Goldman taught the kids how to fold foxes, paper planes, crabs and butterflies. Catherine and Amber volunteered at one table to teach kids how to make penguins and stars with air dry clay. Every kid gained a lot of fun and art products today. Overall, the event was a fun and engaging experience for the kids and the volunteers both.
