On Saturday February 28, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, the
Newtown Branch was involved with the process of organization of products
and objects in order to aid the UnitedWay Shelter to move out to another
area.
As volunteers for the event, we helped the workers move out items
ranging from donations, old documents, and furniture, requiring a heavy
amount of volunteers to expedite the process. Although we did not directly
help with aiding the many people who utilize this service, we were
contributing to the improvement of the service and allowing for UnitedWay
to develop for their steps of helping the unfortunate. There were many
negligible slipups that were slightly humorous, such as mishandling the file
cabinets at first and the fall of documents transferring them for disposal, but
served as a morale boost for the team and everlasting memories to look
upon to. At first, we struggled with our team synergy and tried to deal with
the overwhelming situation. Over time, we put our efforts into persistence
and trying every possibility to navigate heavy furniture within narrow
doorways and developing a system to organize items faster. Getting
comfortable with this task was the only issue within each of us volunteers
as there weren’t many skills to learn beforehand to enter the task. Overall,
the day ended with success and we each learned that the importance of
synergizing with teamwork, even with people we have not worked with
before, was a significant factor to overcoming huge burdens and
challenges.
