On Saturday, February 21st, 2026, at 9:30 AM, volunteers from AYLUS Oakland Gardens Branch gathered in front of the Flushing 109th Precinct to participate in the 30th Lunar New Year Parade (Year of the Fire Horse) for our 215th event.
We were honored to be invited by New York State Senator John Liu to join this annual Lunar New Year celebration, a long-standing tradition that brings together the Flushing community each year. Nearly 100 groups and 50 floats participated in the parade, including the NYPD, local high schools, cultural organizations, and various volunteer groups. Additionally, food vendors and community organizations lined the streets, creating a lively and festive atmosphere.
Representing Senator John Liu’s office, our branch walked as the third section of the parade. Several of our members carried posters behind John Liu, one of our parent advisers proudly held the Senator John Liu Office banner, and other AYLUS members carried small plastic boards and some large posters to show our support. As we marched along the route—37th Avenue to Union Street 109th Precinct, 39th Avenue to Sanford Avenue, Main Street, and back to 39th Avenue—we greeted community members, waved to families, and wished everyone a happy and prosperous New Year.
One of the most impressive features of the event was the large turnout and unity among the various ethnic and community groups. The scale of the parade, with so many organizations collaborating, reflected the Flushing community’s power and variety. Although the long walking route and cold conditions challenged stamina and coordination, we encouraged one another, remained coordinated within our formation, and maintained a high energy level throughout the parade.
