On Sunday, February 15th, 2026, from 11 am to 4 pm, volunteers from AYLUS Oakland Gardens Branch worked together with NYC Council Member Sandra Ung for the preparation of a Lunar New Year Celebration at Tangram Mall for their 213th event.
At the beginning of the event, members helped bring trays of food, disposable plates and forks, napkins, and boxes of oranges to the designated stand. During the celebration, members helped serve free bread, oranges, and Chinese rice cake dessert to those who attended the event. The members organized and guided people into a line to prevent blockage of the path for other attendees.
It was a lively day. Inspirational speeches by elected officials were given to welcome prosperity to this new year. There were cultural performances ranging from traditional Chinese lion dances to taekwondo performed by talented kids. Additionally, community stands were present and handed out free things.
Through this event, members were not only able to help their community and aid in the celebration of a special day for all to enjoy, but also connect with this event on a deeper cultural level. We learned the importance of events for all to enjoy and the impact and happiness they can bring.
We would like to thank Council Member Sandra Ung for making this possible, providing us with the opportunity to engage and help our community. We would like to thank her team for working with us throughout the event. Lastly, thank you to our members for coming to help out.
