Description of AYLUS SOMA, NJ
The SOMA (South Orange & Maplewood, NJ) Branch of the AYLUS program is a community service organization dedicated to providing local youth with opportunities in leadership and, more importantly, connecting with their community. This branch emphasizes motivation beyond simply acquiring community service hours and encourages creativity and personal interest in aiding one’s community, fostering growth and authentic connection. The SOMA Branch will work to pursue opportunities to secure AP accessibility by providing tutoring, organizing cleanups of public spaces like our parks and libraries, and collaborating on new ways we can serve our community as opportunities arise. The branch will provide members with an outlet for their ideas on making lasting change in their community, encouraging individual members, regardless of leadership experience, to propose projects and take initiative. Overall, this branch will expand AYLUS’ mission of inspiring leadership in a community filled with youth with an unbridled potential to enact change in good faith.
