On Saturday, January 10th, from 1:00 to 4:00, four AYLUS Roslyn members volunteered at CP Nassau’s Hicksville residential home.
We began by making a French yogurt cake with the residents. Everyone enjoyed participating in the baking process, like helping mix the ingredients and pouring the batter. The activity was very engaging and allowed residents to be more hands-on.
After baking, we worked together on a large Chinese New Year poster. The poster had numerous long paper dragons, colorful autumn decorations, and many different flower stickers. Residents helped decorate the poster, adding their own designs. When we finished, the poster was hung inside the home to celebrate the artwork they worked so hard on.
Next, we played several rounds of UNO with the residents. They were very attentive and passionate throughout the game, which made the activity very enjoyable and interactive for all of the residents.
After multiple rounds of UNO, we took a break to enjoy the French yogurt cake we had baked together. The cake turned out very good and was enjoyed by both the residents and volunteers.
Afterward, we returned to playing more rounds of UNO until our time was up. Continuing the game allowed residents to stay engaged while practicing focus and interaction skills.
Overall, the volunteers had a wonderful time spending the day with the residents. The activities were fun, engaging, and meaningful. We look forward to returning again soon!
