Greater Princeton AYLUS (GPA) “Humanitarian Care” team served at Cornerstone Community Kitchen in Princeton (PCCK) on August 27 and 28, 2019. PCCK is a food kitchen regularly serving dinner once a week on Wednesdays. It also provides a free clothing store, health screenings, and a kids’ playing area. The kitchen’s aim is to help underprivileged people in the Princeton area.

On Tuesday, August 27 (4 pm – 6 pm), the GPA team helped to set up the dinner tables by putting table cloths on them and placing centerpieces. They also set up the kids’ play areas with fun toys and inviting games. Furthermore, the team assisted in organizing the clothing donations.

On Wednesday, August 28, the GPA team arrived at the kitchen, washing their hands and putting their gloves on to start. At 4:40 pm, the people who were waiting to get dinner outside the church were let in. The GPA team worked to 6:40 pm for a total of 2 hours with other volunteers. For dinner, the kitchen served spaghetti, meatballs, fresh fruit salad, cookies and bread. When the people who were being served, finished eating, the GPA team helped to clear the dishes and send them to be cleaned.

Both the adults and children enjoyed the food and were delighted that they could bring food bags and clothes home. There was also a pianist that played during the dinner, giving the effect of having a fancy dinner. After the dinner, children started to play with the toys and everyone was happy to see the joy on their faces. There were also healthcare professionals who were offering free checkups to everyone, making sure that even the underprivileged could stay healthy.

Once again, for the GPA team, it was a pleasant experience working at the kitchen. Everyone was happy to have this opportunity to serve the underprivileged and to help them.
