AYLUS Roslyn Provides Food to Local Families Through NOSH Delivers! Food Pantry (109th) on December 29th, 2025

On Monday, December 29th, 2025, from 9:00AM to 1:00PM, the AYLUS Roslyn Branch volunteered with NOSH Delivers. NOSH Delivers is a food pantry in Glen Cove that strives to make sure families in need have access to food.

As soon as we arrived, we were quickly given tasks to complete.  We received donations of non-perishable goods that had been left out the previous night, so we started by checking the expiration dates on the donations and then put them on the shelves neatly so customers could see a variety of food they needed. Because NOSH had not been open for 4 days, we had a surplus of shoppers as well as a large delivery of goods from Island Harvest. When the truck came, we loaded all the boxes into the center of the food pantry and began stocking the shelves with items such as canned vegetables, snacks, pasta and cereal. While we completed tasks in the main food pantry area, some other volunteers were assembling NOSH bags to be delivered to people’s homes. They put produce and canned goods into bags so that people who cannot or prefer not to leave their house could easily receive goods.
After all the NOSH bags were made and the shelves were replenished, we began sorting through produce such as lettuce and pineapples. We made sure to check if the vegetables and fruits were rotten or had gone bad so that our customers could receive the best quality of produce we could offer. During this time, Courtney assigned us the task of filling KFIP bags or the “Kids Food Independence Program” so kids who could not have access to free school meals could have a quick and accessible meal at home. We filled the bags with ramen as well as a snack such as a cupcake or a bag of chips and put them out onto the shelves or stored them in the attic upstairs. After that, we finished up by helping set up tables and lining the tables with tablecloths to prepare for a pop-up KFIP bag decorating event. Although we only spend about 3-4 hours volunteering here at a time, we definitely learn alot from the experiences and most importantly, people.
