AYLUS Great Neck Branch Tutoring at Station Library 67th (11/6/25)

On Thursday, November 6th, from 6:00 to 7:00 PM, a group of dedicated volunteers—Junlin Yu, Brian Zhang, Baiyu Chen, Erika Li, Brendan Chen, Eugenia Shek, and Summer Lu gathered at the GN Station Library to carry out tutoring activities for young students. All the volunteer tutors were high-achieving high school students with excellent GPAs, bringing enthusiasm, patience, and professional academic support to the session.

During the tutoring, each volunteer took on clear and targeted responsibilities, ensuring the smooth progress of the activity. Baiyu Chen focused on guiding a third-grade boy in reading picture books, with a special emphasis on helping him adapt to the American educational style—through interactive reading, interesting question-and-answer sessions, and encouraging the child to express his thoughts freely, Baiyu successfully made the reading process engaging and effective, laying a solid foundation for the boy’s integration into local education. Summer Lu played a key coordinating role: she took charge of assigning tutoring tasks reasonably based on the students’ needs and the volunteers’ strengths, while also keeping an eye on the overall tutoring process, promptly resolving small issues that arose and ensuring a safe, orderly, and efficient learning environment for both volunteers and children.

Brian Zhang concentrated on helping a young girl with her math homework. With careful explanation and step-by-step guidance, he broke down complex math problems into easy-to-understand parts, patiently answering the girl’s questions and boosting her confidence in learning math. Meanwhile, Brendan Chen, Eugenia Shek, Erika Li and Junlin Yu also made remarkable contributions to the tutoring session: they provided targeted academic assistance according to the individual needs of other students, offering extra practice guidance, answering knowledge doubts, and using their expertise to help the children overcome learning difficulties.

Throughout the one-hour tutoring activity, every volunteer fulfilled their duties with a serious and responsible attitude, devoting their time and energy to helping the children. The children, in turn, showed great enthusiasm for learning, actively interacting with the tutors and making obvious progress in a short period. This volunteer tutoring activity was a complete success: the volunteers not only practiced their sense of responsibility and communication skills but also gained a deep sense of achievement from helping others; the children, on the other hand, obtained practical academic guidance, enhanced their learning interest, and felt the care and support from the volunteers. Both sides benefited greatly from this meaningful interaction.
