AYLUS North Hollywood Composts at Backyard Farms Arleta | November 1, 2025

Activity & Impact

On November 1, 2025, two members of the AYLUS North Hollywood branch volunteered at the SOW Collective backyard farm from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Volunteers were guided through a three-step composting process, learning how food waste can be transformed into nutrient-rich soil.

Members began by dumping food waste into the compost containers. They then covered the waste with mulch, followed by watering each bin for three minutes. Each month, the compost is transferred to the next bin in the system to continue decomposing. Once fully decomposed, the finished compost is sifted to remove larger pieces, leaving behind usable soil. Members also participated in a clay painting activity led by LA Compost.
