AYLUS Roslyn Donates Clothes in Winter Coat Drive (2nd) on September 29, 2025

Since the start of September, the AYLUS Roslyn Branch had been collecting coats for the One Warm Coat organization in order to help collect and organize coats for families in need as the colder months approach. Founded in 1992 by one woman with one coat to give, One Warm Coat is a national movement born from one simple act of kindness. Today, One Warm Coat is a thriving national nonprofit organization that maintains a steadfast commitment to humanitarianism, volunteerism, and environmental sustainability.

On the night of the event, we sorted through all the donated coats, making sure they were clean and in good condition. We then organized them by size and type, from children’s jackets to heavy winter coats, so they would be easy to hand out. Many donors came in with bags of coats, so we worked together to unpack, fold, and arrange them.

The coats we collected will keep many people warm this winter. One surprising thing was that some families brought more than one bag of coats, and they told us they were glad to be helping others. One challenge we faced was that a few coats needed to be cleaned, so we had to separate them and focus on the ones ready for use. We made sure to communicate and stay organized so the process went smoothly.

Through this event, we learned how even small actions like giving away a coat can make a big difference. We also saw the importance of teamwork in making sure everything was done quickly and carefully. We hope to hold more donation drives in the future to support families in our community.
