The AYLUS Basking Ridge chapter organized its first concert at Arbor Terrace (3066 Valley Rd, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920). A month before the event, local AYLUS members were invited to sign up to perform, and the concert featured 11 acts ranging from piano and singing to guzheng, cello, and violin. One of our members even designed a beautiful program to guide the audience through the evening.
The performances were full of heart, and the seniors were clearly moved. Smiles lit up the room, laughter rang out between songs, and applause echoed after every act. What made the night truly special wasn’t just the music—it was the connection. Members chatted with seniors before and after the performances, sharing stories, asking questions, and learning from their experiences. One senior even told us how much it reminded her of her own youth, while another said it was the highlight of her week.
For our members, the concert was more than a performance—it was a reminder of why we serve. We saw firsthand how music, creativity, and genuine human interaction can brighten someone’s day, spark joy, and build bridges between generations. By the end of the night, it was clear that this event had created something lasting: a sense of community, mutual respect, and shared memories that both seniors and students would carry with them long after the final note.
