On September 25, the AYLUS Morris Branch partnered with GRACE (Giving and Receiving Assistance for our Community’s Essentials) to complete a meaningful service project addressing both basic household and nutritional needs. Through two weeks of coordinated outreach and collection efforts, the branch successfully gathered 120 pieces of adult incontinence supplies along with 25 pounds of non-perishable food. On 9/25, members personally delivered the donations to the GRACE distribution center.
The project began with an understanding of the urgent needs faced by vulnerable populations, particularly seniors and families experiencing economic hardship. Adult incontinence supplies are essential for many individuals yet often overlooked in donation drives. By including these items alongside food, AYLUS Morris members worked to provide a more holistic form of support.
To achieve this, members spread awareness throughout neighborhoods and among friends, using flyers, posters, and word-of-mouth to encourage donations. Collection points were set up at local gyms, clubs, and study centers, making it convenient for community members to contribute. Each item donated represented a small act of care, and together they created a significant impact.
Once collected, members carefully sorted and organized the supplies before transporting them to GRACE on September 25. GRACE staff expressed appreciation for the thoughtful contributions, noting how both the food and personal care items would directly benefit families in the area.
This project reinforced the AYLUS mission of inspiring youth to take initiative and lead with compassion. By addressing community needs with creativity and persistence, the Morris Branch not only supported GRACE’s efforts but also demonstrated how teamwork and leadership can create meaningful change.
