On Saturday, 8/23/2025, members of the Newtown AYLUS Branch volunteered at the Bucks County Free Library – Levittown Branch (7311 New Falls Rd, Levittown, PA 19055) from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM. The Bucks County Free Library serves as a central hub where community members of all ages can access books, learning opportunities, and programs that promote growth and discovery. During this session, AYLUS members contributed by organizing and shelving books to make resources more accessible to patrons.
The volunteers focused on carefully reshelving returned materials and performing shelf reading to ensure that books were placed in their correct order. This detailed work had a direct impact on the people who visit the library. A well-organized collection allows patrons to find the materials they need quickly and independently, reducing frustration and making their visits smoother and more enjoyable. By keeping the shelves tidy and accurate, volunteers helped foster a space where children, students, and lifelong learners can confidently explore and learn.
Beyond supporting individual visitors, the volunteers’ efforts also lightened the workload for library staff. With the shelves properly maintained, staff could focus more on assisting patrons directly, running programs, and expanding community services. In this way, the volunteers’ work extended far beyond just the books—it contributed to creating a library environment where people feel welcomed, supported, and inspired.
Members who participated were David Soong (event leader, 2 hrs) and Edward Soong (2 hrs).
