San Diego Branch Hosted 1st Volunteer Support at Youth Kitchen San Diego Farmer’s Market on August 24, 2025

Purpose:
To support Youth Kitchen San Diego, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, in its mission to empower youth with nutrition knowledge and healthy meal preparation skills. As a new organization with limited staffing, Youth Kitchen San Diego requested assistance from AYLUS San Diego volunteers to help operate their booth at the Carmel Valley Farmers Market.

Carmel Valley Farmers Market at Torrey Pines High School

Event Description:
AYLUS San Diego partnered with Youth Kitchen San Diego to provide volunteers for their booth at the Carmel Valley Farmers Market. The volunteers assisted in a variety of responsibilities including:

  • Setting up tents and tables

  • Designing and drawing the menu on a blackboard

  • Hosting the spin-wheel activity and other interactive nutrition-related games

  • Supervising children using plastic knives and helping them cook

  • Supporting cooking and cleaning tasks

  • Greeting customers and organizing the booth space

  • Taking down tents and tables after the event

Kenneth Chen and Charles Liu both participated in the inaugural collaboration on August 24. Their support allowed Youth Kitchen San Diego staff to focus on program design and community engagement while ensuring the booth ran smoothly.

Volunteer Hours:

  • Kenneth Chen: 2.5 hours
